According to Samsung Mobile Romania, the Korean consumer electronics giant will be releasing a Gingerbread update for its first-generation Android flagship device Galaxy S. Launched with Android 2.1 Eclair onboard, the Galaxy S took its own sweet time getting an Android 2.2 Froyo update, and now, fortunately just a few short months later, it is getting a Gingerbread update. The Samsung Galaxy S (I9000) will first get an Android v2.2.1 update by March 20th, before getting an Android 2.3 Gingerbread by the end of March. For those of you wondering if the Samsung Galaxy S will be phased out soon, think again – Samsung is pushing both the Galaxy SL and Galaxy S models, and you can expect prices to drop but availability remain after the Galaxy S II launches.
